Meet The Trainer - Lucy in Buckingham & Milton Keynes

Hello, I’m Lucy – I’m the local Daisy First Trainer for Buckingham and Milton Keynes, I also cover Brackley, Towcester, Daventry and Banbury.

Here are 5 things about me…

Why I became a Daisy First Aid Trainer….

My background is in adult nursing, so I’ve always liked taking care of people. After I had my 3 boys I left nursing and trained as an NCT antenatal teacher which I’ve been doing for the past 4 years.

I noticed a gap in local provision for family first aid in my area so have been able to combine my love of healthcare with my new teaching skills to make a perfect role for myself!

My background/own experience…

Over the past 20 years, I’ve worked in a variety of healthcare settings including everything from a busy surgical emergency unit to caring for people in their own homes as a District Nurse.

I also used my nursing skills in Sydney and Melbourne which was a memorable year. However, I don’t think anything has challenged me or rewarded me more than becoming a mum nearly 11 years ago.

I now have 3 boys aged 10, 9 and 5 who constantly keep me on my toes and remind me every day to be the best I can be.

What I love about teaching…

I love having the opportunity to meet new people who are as enthusiastic as me about learning first aid!

It’s a privilege to be invited into people’s homes to teach them life-saving skills and I love hearing how much more confident people feel at the end of a class.

My proudest moment…

Aside from having children this has got to be completing my first London marathon in 2009. The experience was incredible and it really did teach me that you can do anything if you set your mind to it and work hard.

Something fun/interesting/ or important about me….

2 years ago I began rehoming ex-caged chickens through the British Hen Welfare Trust. I hadn’t realised what cheeky, inquisitive pets they make so you’ll often find me in the garden with them!

What I offer & where…

I currently offer Daisy First Aid’s award winning 2 hour family first aid class.

From spring 2023 I will also be offering Level 3 Ofsted accredited paediatric first aid.
