I’m Liane – the local Daisy First Aid trainer for Bracknell, North Woking, Lightwater, Egham, Bagshot & surrounding areas.
Here are 5 things about me…
Why I became a Daisy First Aid Trainer….
When my granddaughter was born, I realised just how important first aid skills are for new & expectant parents as well as grandparents.
So for me, with my Nursing & First Aid experience, and my love of teaching (and babies!) becoming a Daisy First Aid trainer was just the perfect fit and I jumped at the chance when a franchise in my area became available!
My background/own experience…
I’ve had a great career as a Registered Nurse, with a background in Intensive Care Nursing, nursing children with severe disabilities, as well as a variety of other nursing roles over the course of 25 years.
I took a career break from the NHS, and joined an airline, providing first aid at 37,000 feet. I soon realised how vital first aid skills are when you are hours away from the nearest medical help!
So I decided to put my first aid experience to good use and have now been a Daisy first Aid trainer for 3 years. As well as specialising in Paediatric First Aid, I have also branched into First Aid at Work and Mental Health First Aid.
What I love about teaching…
It’s a real privilege to know I can help people feel more confident and teach them skills that might just save their little one’s life one day. I also get to meet some gorgeous little babies too!
For me it’s really important for me to make sure my classes are relaxed, and that parents leave my class feeling confident.
Hopefully, they will never have to use their new skills, but when parents tell me they feel so much more confident and relaxed about looking after their little ones, to me that is priceless!
My proudest moments…
I think my proudest moments have to be when I receive an email from parents who have experienced an emergency with their baby and instead of panicking, they knew exactly what to do!
One mum who had just started weaning her baby, contacted me to say she had to use her new skills to help her choking baby, just a few days after taking my class.
And another new mum had to use her new skills when her baby choked on mucus soon after she was born, before she had even left the hospital.
I cannot praise these parents more highly for keeping calm, having the confidence to use their first aid skills and save their babies’ lives. I feel immensely proud to have contributed to that.
I also feel a huge sense of pride & achievement when I get great feedback from childcare professionals after teaching their 12 hour Paediatric First Aid courses
Something fun about me…
I have always loved anything to do with being in the air.
I completed a solo parachute jump at the age of 18 years, I’ve hang-glided off a snowy mountain, enjoyed a ride in a hot air balloon & a helicopter.
My favourite ever birthday present was an aerobatic flight, doing loop the loops and barrel rolls, which was just amazing!
