Hello, I’m Jemma, the local Daisy First Aid Trainer for Central Cornwall
Here are 5 things about me…
Why I became a Daisy First Aid Trainer….
I had been working as a Daisy First Aid freelance trainer since the beginning of 2022 for the previous owner of the franchise, and absolutely loving every session I delivered!
When the opportunity came up to purchase the franchise myself, it took a few weeks to be able to come to the decision to go for
it, but I’m so glad I did!
Supporting people to feel confident in first aid is such a privilege for me to be able to do.
My background/own experience…
I qualified as a nurse in 2011 and spent the next decade working in a variety of settings (for paediatrics and adults), both in the acute and primary sectors.
After having my own children, I could not consolidate the long hours that nursing demanded with being present as a parent,
so decided to take a leap and start my own baby massage business.
It is from this that my passion for supporting parents and families has
really grown to what it is today.
What I love about teaching…
I love that I’m able to impart knowledge to such a vast amount of people across the county, which in all likelihood, at some point, will make a life saving difference to someone!
My proudest moment…
It happened recently, when my 5-year-old asked me why I was working one evening (doing some training for DFA!) – I explained very simply to her that mummy was doing some study to be able to do my new job, and that it was hopefully going to help a lot of people. Her response was
“that’s fantastic mummy”.
Something fun/interesting/ or important about me….
The most important thing about me, is my determination to make every person who comes to a class with me feel and ease and comfortable.
I was diagnosed with post-natal depression after the birth of my first child. Recovery took a long time, and some baby classes I went to, unfortunately were not conducive to my mental health.
I would never want someone to miss out on learning first aid because they felt too
anxious or scared to come to a class. I stress to everyone who can express their concerns to me, that they are safe with me.
