Download our FREE baby travel planner, which is a handy checklist of everything you need when you’re travelling with a baby.
If you’re flying…
Take a sling
A sling is very useful to keep baby close and happy so you have your hands free to nagivate your way through the airport.
Feed during take of and landing
Feed your baby during take off and landing, which will help with the pressure on their ears. This can be uncomfortable for babies.
Ask for help (and accept it when it’s offered)
Cabin crew will be only too happy to help you with your little one so if you need anything just ask them!
Calpol sachets
Calpol sachets are useful as you can take them through security at the airport without needing to carry a class bottle.
Take extra everything
If you have a long journey take extra nappies, wipes and changes of clothes just in case you’re unexpectedly delayed.
Snacks, snacks and more snacks
If your baby’s on solids take plenty of snacks for the journey there and back.
Take entertainment
Pack baby’s favourite toys and boos for the journey so you can keep them amused on the journey.
Don’t worry about what others think
One of the biggest causes of anxiety for some people when they’re travelling with little ones is what other people think. If you have a child who is crying and making a lot of noise on a flight then the chances are the majority of people around you are going to be sympathetic to your situation. There may be the odd one who gets annoyed but if that’s their problem and their choice and you can’t control how they think so just focus on yourself and your little one.
If you’re driving…
Plan plenty of stops
If you’re driving a long distance with your little one make sure you plan in plenty of stops to get baby out of their car seat. The NHS states babies shouldn’t stay in their car seat for more than 2 hours at a time.
Travel at night
Travelling at night might make the journey smoother for you as your little is likely to sleep for most of it rather than becoming restless and upset.
Pack a bag for the car
Make sure everything you need is easily accessible so you’re not having to rummage through your luggage to find what you need. Just as you would on a flight, take a change of clothes, wipes, plenty of snacks and everything else you need in a separate bag to make life easier for yourself.
Keep your child rear facing
Keep your baby or child rear-facing for as long as possible, they are much safer while they’re in a rear facing car seat. Get a car seat mirror so you can still see you.
